The former home of Queen’s University’’s Film and Media Department is slated to be torn down this month. The buildings have been vacant since September of 2014 when the department relocated to the Isabel Bader Centre for the performing arts. A City of Kingston report to Heritage Kingston submitted earlier this year noted The 154 and 160 Stuart Street property was assessed as part of a Cultural heritage study in 2015 and was found to have “limited cultural value” and was not recommended for redesign given the building’s condition. The trees surrounding the property will be protected during demolition and the site will be retained for future re-development.

A film by Laudato Si’ Movement telling the story of environmental leaders journeying to Rome for an exclusive discussion regarding Laudato Si with Pope Francis, will be screened at St. John the Apostle, tomorrow afternoon at 1:30. The environmental leaders include an Indigenous leader from the Amazon, a Senegalese climate refugee, a youth activist from India and a married pair of scientists from Hawaii. Laudato Si is the patron saint of all those who work in or study ecology. There will be a group discussion following the film.
