Kingston Health Sciences Centre is reducing hours at the Urgent Care Centre for tomorrow, Canada Day right through Sunday. The centre will only be open from 8 am until 5pm for urgent, non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses that need to be addressed within a 24 hour period.

KHSC President Dr. David Pichora says, “It was a difficult decision…in order to consolidate physicians and staff in the Emergency Department…we must ensure we have the resources to meet the needs of the sickest people in our region, such as those who have suffered a stroke, heart-attack or traumatic injuries.”

The UCC will resume regular hours on Monday. The KHSC recommends visiting rightplacerightcare.ca to find the best care option.

City Council voted in favour of a motion at last night’s meeting to have no sanctioned encampment on private property, to relocate 358 thousand dollars of potential encampment funding to instead support other forms of housing. In the meeting, Councillor Wayne Hill says, “Where is the federal government, where is the provincial government? We spent nearly 18 million dollars in the past two years trying to solve this issue…Along with other municipalities we have to force the next level of government to do what needs to be done, but having people live in encampments is not a solution.” Mayor Bryan Paterson says as a member of the 29 Ontario Big City Mayor Caucus, this was the number 1 issue in all 29 cities, and they have asked for an emergency meeting with the premier.

More details on the council meeting coming up Monday at 4:30 on The Scoop.

Canada’s first commercially available electric boat, The Voltari 260 will launch here in Kingston tomorrow morning. Voltari Electric has partnered with The City of Kingston to install the first EV-boat charging station in the country at Confederation Basin. The launch will happen at 11:30 on Canada Day.
